An interview with Computer Scientist Sari Stissi is published on the official STEM Strikes for Peace youtube channel. Sari speaks spontaneously on how military budgets ought to be slashed to fund education and on what their dream hobbies are.

Sari Stissi, Digital Platforms Manager at On Earth Peace, writes a great piece on the impact of STEM Strikes for Peace. This sentence is a link to the original post. Their piece is as follows:

There's a lot of issues in the world that we're working through and it can seem like we'll never be able to fix anything on our own since companies and elite individuals are causing a lot more harm than you or I.

Something we can do, especially as STEM students, to try and push corporations to make bigger changes in terms of feeding the military-industrial complex is to sign the pledge below saying that you won't work for any military or defense company.

If these companies see that we see through their tactics, they'll have to make a change! These companies placate us while continuing harmful practices that hurt us and people overseas. Imagine what we could do, create, and research if stem people were given that money directly without strings attached from the military?

If a job through the military or a defense company is the only way you can get the opportunities you need to survive, I completely understand! I'm not here to force anyone to put themselves into poverty. But wouldn't it be great if you didn't have to go through the military to get all of those amazing opportunities to get out of poverty? Let's try to remove the military middleman and get those funds directly to create those opportunities without strings attached.”

Incarcerated workers across the U.S. are on strike. Their first three demands are as follows:

  1. Immediate improvements to the conditions of prisons and prison policies that recognize the humanity of imprisoned men and women.

  2. An immediate end to prison slavery. All persons imprisoned in any place of detention under United States jurisdiction must be paid the prevailing wage in their state or territory for their labor.

  3. The Prison Litigation Reform Act must be rescinded, allowing imprisoned humans a proper channel to address grievances and violations of their rights.

STEM Strikes the War Machine expresses its solidarity with the incarcerated workers on strike. We recognize that it is the same addiction to control which motivates elites to put people in cages as to drop bombs on foreign countries.

Science for the People tweets their support for STEM Strikes the War Machine.

Science for the People is an organization dedicated to making science and tech a force for good in the world. Not only do they organize scientists to withhold labor from terrible institutions like militaries and ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement), but they also work to root out sexism and racism within our own ranks. STEM Strikes the War Machine gives its full support to Science for the People.
